Arabic Text Book 3 Chapter 13
Translation of the text:
The cat and the bell
Paragraph 1: There was a group of mice, living in a small hole.Every night the mice came out of the hole, to search for food, a cat raided on them and got hold of one of the mice and ate it.
Paragraph 2: The mice lived a long time in fear, while the cat ate a mouse from among the mice every night and on a day the big (or the leader) mouse said: Come on! Let us think about a trick that will save us from the cat.
Paragraph 3: The mice thought and thought.The big mouse jumped up the kitchen rack and said : " I found a great trick.Bring a bell.And we will hang it around the cats neck, and when the cat walks, the bell would ring, so we can know its (cat's) place from a far place, and we can hide from it".
Paragraph 4: The mice agreed upon the attractive deal and said to the big mouse : "You are our elder, so you will be the one to hang the bell around the cats neck. The big mouse got ready, and when it saw the cat from far, it got frightened and threw the bell and ran to the hole.
Paragraph 5: The cat left, and the mice came out of the hole, and stood around the big mouse and laughed at it. The small mouse said," You are an intelligent person.How did you run away from the cat and you are our elder ! The big cat felt sorry, took the bell and left.
Paragraph 6: The big mouse returned and told the mice: " I have another idea,we will attack the cat all at once,and beat it with full strength,so the cat will get scared and leave the house.The mice were happy by the idea.The cat came and the mice attacked the cat all at once.The cat over powered the mice,and caught a mouse from them and ate it.
Paragraph 7:The mice were worried,and the tiny mouse said:"What is your opinion?We will apply the floor with gum,and put a piece of meat on the floor,the cat will come to get the meat,so its legs will get stuck to the gum,and it will not be able to move,then we can hang the bell to its neck.
Paragraph 8:The mice were happy by the new idea,the mice coated the floor with gum,and put a piece of meat on it,and stood at a far place waiting for the cat ,happily with a bell that will be hung in its (cats) neck.
Paragraph 9: The cat came,and saw the piece of meat.The cat was excited and jumped on the piece of meat to eat it.Its feet landed on the floor and got stuck to the gum and stood in its place without moving.The mice brought the bell,the tiny mouse jumped on to the back of the cat and hung the bell in its neck.
Paragraph 10: The mice clapped for the tiny mouse,and stood laughing at the cat.And from that day on,the mice did not fear the cat ; they heard the bell when the cat walked,the mice ran away and hid in the hole,and the cat was not able to catch any of the mice.
