Chapter 15 : Four Language games
Exercise 1 - Read (Translation of the text)
1) The game of adding words: The teacher begins with phrase and asks each (boy) student and girl student to recall what was said to him or her and to add a suitable word to it. Then the second student is asked to recall what the first student said and add a third meaningful word to the phrase and so on.
(The game begins with the teacher)
The teacher: I went to the market and bought shoes .....
The first student: I went to the market and bought shoes and socks .....
The second student: I went to the market and bought shoes and socks and bag .....
And so on it goes till a student stops and is not able to add a word to the sentence.
The teacher starts a new phrase and says:
The Teacher: I went to the library and read a book........
The first student: I went to the library and read a book and a story........
The second student: I went to the library and read a book and a story and a magazine ........
And so on it goes till a student stops and is not able to add a word to the sentence and so gets out of the game.
The game gets dragged along till only a few students are left who are the winners.
2.(The game of ) treasure hunt : The teacher writes instructions on small cards and hides them at different places in the school.
Then the teacher asks a group of boys and a group of girls to search for the treasure, and gives each one a card.
On the card is written (an instruction) "Search below the teacher's table".
The girl students hurry and take the card from below the table and read,“Go to the play room and take the dictionary from the cabinet".
The two groups hurry to the cabinet. One of the boys reaches there first.(He) gets the dictionary and opens it.
They find a card and on it is written,“Search in the
notice board".
Both the groups hurry to the notice board.
A girl takes the card and one of the them reads it:
“Search for the treasure in the library on the shelf for class 3".
The girl walks to the library, goes to the shelf of class
3, and find a small black box on the shelf.
The girl gets the box and hurries to the class and gives
the box to the teacher.
The teacher says, “the treasure is found.The girls team
has won”. The boys clapped.
The teacher divides the black board into two sections A and B to enter points.
The teacher selects 4 girls to form a team.
And formed another team of 4 boys.
The teacher said ,“ I am going to ask for some object. The team which brings the object to my table first gets a point. The rest of the class may help both the teams”.
The teacher asks for a book.
The (girl) students bring the book first.
The teacher writes a point for the girls team on the black board.
The teacher then asks for a basket.
The boys leap and bring a basket from the other class room.
The teacher writes a point for the boys team.
The teacher then says, ” Socks ”.
A (boy) student removes his shoes and presents his socks to the teacher.
The students laugh.
The teacher says second point to the boys team.
The teacher asks for a watch.
The (girl) students removes her watch and puts it on the teacher's table.
Now exactly two points to both the teams.
The teacher says," Last request … spectacles (or wearing glasses)”.
A boy removes his glasses and gives it to the boys team.
And they quickly put it on the teacher's table.
The teacher laughs and says,”Three points to the boys team and two points to the girls team”.
And the students clap.
4.Game of Right and Wrong: The teacher selects and forms two groups.
In each group there are four students.
They stand in two rows.
The teacher gives numbers to each member of the team from 1 to 4.
The student number 1 from one team stands against student number 1 of the other team and student number 2 of one team stands against student number 2 of the other team and so on.
The teacher puts Two chairs in the middle between the two rows.
On one of the chairs is a paper with a X mark indicating wrong in bold print.
On another chair is a paper with a tick mark indicating correct answer.
The teacher has a list of sentences, some of them are correct while some of them are wrong.
The teacher reads out a sentence for example ,"The sun rises in the West", then quickly mentions a number from one to four.
For example the teacher says“ Three ”.
Now the student number three from both the groups need to quickly move to the chair with the marking " X ” on it.
If the student number three (from a team) sits on the chair marked X on it then they are the winner.
If they sit on the chair with a Tick Mark or if they are late in reaching the chair (than the other team), or the wrong student (other student instead of number Three) goes to the chair the team looses.

The baby (girl) is sleeping.
New words with meanings in Arabic and sentences formed using them:
5)
أضافَ/ يضيف : زاد / يزيد
Meanings of above words and how to read:
أضافَ - Added - Adaafa
يضيف - Is adding - Yadeefu
زاد - increased - zaada
يزيد - is increasing - yazeedu
Sentence based on the above new word, how to read it and it's meaning:
أضاف المدرّس درجتين للطالب المجتهد.
Adaafa al-mudarrisu darajathaine lil Talib al-mujtahid.
The teacher had added two marks to the hard working student.
