An Apple for four - تفّاحة لأربعة - Tuffah Li Arbaáh
Exercise 1 :Translation of the Lesson
Arabic Text: الأب: ماذا بيدي؟ قولي. هل تعرفين؟
Read as: al-Ab: madha biyady? quli. hal taerafin?
Meaning: Father: What's with my hand? Say. do you know?
Arabic Text: الأم: كيف أعرف وأنت تخفي يدك خلف ظهرك؟
Read as: al-Ummu: kayf 'aerif wa'ant tukhfi yadak khalf zahrik?
Meaning: Mother: How do I know you're hiding your hand behind your back?
Arabic Text: الأب: أنظري. أوّل تفاحة من شجرتنا.
Read as:al-Ab: Unzuri. awwalu taffahah min shajratina.
Meaning: Father: Look. The first apple of our tree.
Arabic Text: الأم: ما أجملها ! ثقاحة حمراء وطازجة.
Read as: al'ama: ma 'ajmalaha ! thaqahat hamra' watazijat.
Meaning: Mother: What a beautiful! Red and fresh.

الأب:تفضلي. هي لك, فأنت تتعبين كثيرا من أجلنا.
Al-Abu: tufdili. hi laka, fa'ant tataeabayn kathiraan min 'ajalina
Father: Go ahead. It is you, you are tired a lot for us.

الأم: شكرا يا زوجي العزيز.
Al-Ummu:shukraan ya zawji aleaziz.
Mother: Thank you, my dear husband.

الأم: انظري. أوّل تفاحة في حديقتنا.
Al-Ummu:anzuri. awwl tafahat fi hadiqatina.
Mother: Look. The first apple in our garden.

نجوى: من قطفها؟
Najwaa: min qatfiha?
Najwa: Who picked it?

الأم: قطقها أبوك من شجرتنا
Al-Ummu:qatquha 'abuk min shijrtina
Mother: Cut your father out of our tree

أنتِ تستحقين هذه التفاحة لأنك تساعدينني دائما في أعمال المنزل.
Ant tastahiqiyn hadhih altafahat li'anak tasaeidinaniy dayimaan fi 'aemal almanzil.
You deserve this apple because you always help me in the work of the house.

نجوى: هذا واجب عليّ
Najwaa: hdha wajib ely
Najwa: This is my duty

الأم: خذي التفاحة يا نجوى.
Al-Ummu:khadhia altafahat ya najwaa.
Mother: Take the apple, Najwa.

Najwa: Thank you.

Najwaa:khudhaha ya 'ahmad fa'ant alawwl fi faslik hdha alshhr
Najwa: Take it, Ahmed, you are the first in your class this month

أحمد: شكرا يا أختي.
Ahmad: shukraan ya 'ukhti.
Ahmed: Thank you, sister.

أحمد: أبي. أبي. أنظر. أوّل تفّاحة من شجرتنا
Ahmad: 'abi. 'abi. 'anzur. awwl tffaht min shijratina
Ahmed: My father. My Father. Look. The first apple of our tree

الأب: تفاحة جميلة. من أعطاها لك؟
Al-Abu: tafahat jamil. min 'aetaha lk?
Father: Beautiful apple. Who gave it to you?

أحمد: أختي نجوى. خذها يا أبي. أنت زرعت الحديقة وتعبت.
Ahmad: 'ukhti najwaa. khudhha ya 'abya. 'ant zareat alhadiqat watuebit.
Ahmed: My sister is Najwa. Take it, Father. You planted the garden and tired.

الأب: شكارا يا ابني. اذهب وأحضر سكينًا.
Al-Abu: shikarana ya abnia. adhhab wa'ahdar skynana.
Father: Thank you, my son. Go and get a knife.

الأب: هذا الربع لك يا زوجتي.
Al-Abu: hdha alrubue lak ya zawjati.
Father: This quarter is for you, my wife.

Al-Ummu:shukraan
Mother: Thank you

Al-Abu: wahadha alrubue lak ya najwaa.
Father: This quarter is for you, Najwa.

Exercise 3 (Page No. 57)
Circle the best answer from between "Yes, No and I don't Know":
1) Answer - No - لا
Read as: qathafathil ummu al-thuffahatha min shajarathi fil Hadeeqah.
Meaning: The mother plucked the Apple from the tree in the garden.
2) Answer - Yes - نعم
Read as: Thusaadu Najwa ummahaa daaiman fee aámaalil manzili.
Meaning : Najwa always helps her mother in the house activities.
3) Answer : I don't know -لا أعرف
Read as: Fee hadeeqati manzilihim ashjaarun lilbutaqaali Wal moozi aydan.
Meaning: In the garden of their house they have orange and banana trees also.
4) Answer: No - لا
Read as:Qataát al-ummu al-tuffaahata ilaa arbaá qithain.
Meaning: The mother cut the Apple into four parts.
5) Answer : Yes - نعم
Read as: Akhaza kullu wahidin fill usrah rubá tuffah.
Meaning: Each one in the family took a quarter of the Apple.

Meaning: This girl is weak.
